Critical Thinking !!

  • Do you agree with the theory of plate tectonics ? Why or why not ?

I agree with the theory of plate tectonics because I think that throughout the time, the earth as a living thing, has been suffering of a lot of changes produced by the time, the release of energy and weather. The Earth's interior is made up of four different layers such as The Inner Core, The Outer Core, The Mantle and The Crust. But now to explain my answer I will focused in the Crust, that is the outer layer that we live on.The theory states that the Earth is made up of huge pieces like a puzzels. There is something interesting among these plate tectonics, the interesting thing is that we take a look to the continents, they seem to be like they are like huge scales of puzzels and that they case together. And also there is something else, some continents share some species of living beings, fossiles and desserts.

The thery also states that the plate tectonics are in constantly movement, and because of their movement the earth faces changes. The places where the plate boundaries meet are known as Plate boundaries, Plate boundaries? Yes plate boundaries, and according to the movement of the plate tectonics the plate boundaries are classified as Convergent boundary when to plate tectonics come together; Divergent Boundary when to plate tectonics pull apart form each  other; and Transform boundary when two plate tectonics slide each other. Now knowing all these factors, the theory of plate tetonics starts to have more sense.

Mountain, Volcanoes, Rift valleys are examples of the Plate tectonics movement. The convergent movement of the  plate tectonics create volcanoes, and mountains. The Divergent movement creates Rift Valleys, Mid-ridge oceans and sometimes volcanoes too. The Transform movement creates earthquakes and Tsunamis.

In Conclusion the theory of the plate tectonics at the beging was just an idea that the most of the people thought it was crazy, but now knowing all these factor and pieces evidence of how the earth moves, what is your opinion about this? Do you have the same point of view about plate tectonics or has it changed ?? In my personal Opinion, the earth hides a lot of mysteries that may be we wont be able to find out, but the movement of the plate tectonics is something that I believe in, because of all the evidences that the earth itself has.

Reflection!!

  • What did you ejoy the most about this project?
Well I enjoyed to being working on the research procces, because at that time I found out information that I didnt know about the Plate tectonics.
  • What was the most challenging partfor you during the project?
Well it was challenging for me to find the difference between Plate tectonics and Contenintal Drift.

  • What new Skills did you learn from doing this project?
  • Is there anything that you could have done to improve any of your work ?
Well Yes I guess that I am doing really badly with my homework, so the thing that I could do is be more focus and handle in my homework on time.

"Earthquakes in The world"

Earthquake is a natural disaster that can be defined as the movement of the earth’s layers; the movement of the plate tectonics or in simple words earthquake is the movement of the ground. The causes of earthquakes are many, but the most common causes are volcanic activity, release of energy that is accumulated in the earth’s crust and by geological faults. Throughout the time many questions have been appearing about if earthquakes are getting worse or not. Well our theory states that earthquake as any other natural disaster is considered as a problem because we know that after an earthquake many worse things can happen, like for example human loss, destruction of infrastructure and diseases. But earthquake as a natural disaster is not getting worse because since the first time when the earth was founded, earthquakes have been there.  Earthquakes happen in places that are located near of plate boundaries. To support our theory we chose Japan and Haiti, two places well known for their seismic activity.

Japan has been suffering because of the earthquakes; the location of Japan close to a plate boundary is the reason why Japan has this natural disaster very often. But the question about if earthquakes are getting worse, does not have a fact that could support this question. Throughout the years Japan has been affected by many earthquakes. Since the year of 2000 to 2012, Japan had experimented 22 earthquakes. The average of the earthquakes is on average of 7.3 of intensity. This evidence is important because it shows that all the earthquakes that had happened are on average and they are not changing according to the magnitude.  Earthquakes aren’t getting worse, they are part of the earth and the earth is part of the earthquakes.

In Haiti, many earthquakes have occurred, and many of them have had a great impact on the population’s lives. But as we said, the reason why this country is being affected is because it is located close to a plate boundary.  Since the year of 1564 to 2010, Haiti has experimented 8 earthquakes that were considered as major earthquakes in history. Throughout the time Haiti has faced many earthquakes, but we all know that earthquake is the release of energy that is accumulated in the earth’s crust. Of all the earthquakes that Haiti has experimented, among them all the average of magnitude is 8.O grades in the Richter scale. Earthquakes are not getting worse, they have been since the first time that the earth was created and they will be here for longer.

In conclusion, earthquakes were here before us and they will be here for longer. Earthquake is the way how the earth releases the energy that it has accumulated.  We saw that Japan as Haiti is well known for their seismic activity. But in our evidences we found that both of those countries have been suffering because of earthquakes but all the seismic activity has been under an average of magnitude. If this natural disaster continues for the next 100 years we can expect that as have been happen, the seismic activities will continue and the earth will keep releasing energy. There is nothing to worry about, all that happen in the world are needed to keep the balance and well function of the earth.

Rock Types !!

Rock Cycle

The Rock cycle is the process, where the rocks change their shapes and compositions, to become a new rock. In the rock cycle, we will be focused on three specific types of rocks, as Igneous Rock, Sedimentary Rock and Metamorphic Rock.  During the Rock cycle, each rock is affected by many factors that change their compositions. When an Igneous rock is affected by Weathering, it becomes a Sediments  that once are affected by Erosion  and are placed in a new place, the sediments are burial and affected by two proccess called Cementation and Compaction, there is a new rock known as Sedimentary Rock. But when the sedimentary rock is affected by Heat and Pressure, the sedimentary rock changes its composition and becomes into another rock known as Metamorphic Rock, that once is affected by mealting and get cool, it becomes a Igneous Rock. And the cycle keeps going on and there will always be a constant changes between these three rocks.

Metamorphic Rock:
"The rock that is form by heat and pressure."

Heat: The temperature.
Pressure: The streingth that push down the rocks.
Fiolated: The rock that has layers on it.

Non-Fiolated: The rock that does not have layers on it.

    Igneous Rock:

"The rock that is from by fire, cooling and molten minerals"

Melting: When the mineral becomes a liquid because of the temperature.
Cooling: When the liquids turn into a solid shapes.
Fire: The temperature that melts the minerals.

Intrusive: The Ignous rock that has a lot of crystals inside. (Because it took more time to grow)
Extrusive: The Igneous rock that has a certain amount of crystals. (Because it took less time to grow)

Sedimentary Rock:

"The combination of many pieces of broken rocks and minerals"

Sediments: Broken pieces of rocks and minerals
Compaction: When the sediments push together
Cementacion: When the sediments glue together
Clastic: Sedimentary rock that is made of Broken pieces.
Bioclastic: Sedimentary rock that is made of death organism.
Cristilline: Sedimentary Rock that is made of crystals.
